Water and Land Contact Festival in Thailand: A Journey of Movement and Connection

From March 10 to 20, 2025, the serene island of Koh Chang, Ranong, Thailand, will host the 12th edition of the Water and Land Contact Festival. This immersive event invites participants to explore the depths of contact improvisation, both on land and in water, fostering a profound connection between body, mind, and nature.

Festival Overview

The Water and Land Contact Festival is a 10-day retreat dedicated to the practice of contact improvisation (CI), a dance form emphasizing spontaneous movement and physical connection. Set against the backdrop of Thailand's lush landscapes and tranquil waters, the festival offers a unique blend of movement exploration and somatic awareness.

Program Highlights

• Morning CI Intensives: Daily sessions led by an international team of experienced instructors, catering to all skill levels.

• Afternoon Water CI Sessions: Engage in dance practices within the gentle embrace of the sea and warm lake, suitable for beginners and intermediate participants.

• Somatic Workshops: Explore the mind-body connection through somatic education, enhancing your dance experience.

The festival's structure is designed to guide participants from initial grounding to deep immersion in movement, culminating in personal creative exploration.

Venue and Accommodation

Koh Chang, located in the Ranong province, offers an idyllic setting for the festival. Participants can choose from various accommodation options, including the Cashew Resort, known for its comfortable bungalows nestled amidst nature. While food and lodging are not included in the festival fee, organizers provide assistance in arranging suitable accommodations.

• Festival Dates: March 10–20, 2025

• Early Bird Fee: $490 (before December 30, 2024)

• Regular Fee: $590 (before January 30, 2025)

• Late Registration: $650 (after January 30, 2025)

• Prepayment: $150 (non-refundable)

Post-Festival Workshop

Following the main festival, a post-workshop led by Annie Brook will take place from March 22 to 25, 2025. This somatic-focused session offers an opportunity to delve deeper into movement practices and personal embodiment.
